First of all, I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. When I first started this page on Facebook, I had no idea that it would grow into what it has actually become. A lot of you now rely on me and trust in me for your forecasts, and I am extremely thankful for that.
As most of you may know, I volunteer a lot of my free time to Ross Guesses The Weather ; and just like every other hobby a person has, there is always some sort of a back story. Well, truthfully, meteorology has been a passion of mine since I was a child. Most kids would return home from elementary school to play video games -- but not me. I would get home, hop on my bean bag chair, and turn the TV to The Weather Channel. I would spend hours on end watching several meteorologists give their forecasts for areas throughout the entire country. This is where I started learning about geographical locations, different weather terminology, and how certain weather events actually unfold. Since then, it has grown into more of a serious passion of mine. Now, with technology, it's unbelievable what kind of information you can gather. Radars can now depict precipitation type, sleet and freezing rain lines, and even tornado and lightning activity! It's truly incredible, but it also comes with a price; which is the reason why I have started this GoFundMe campaign.
It's a well-known fact that the weather plays a huge role in our everyday lives. With this being said, I have taken it upon myself to make sure you are prepared for the absolute worst possible scenario. I do this to ensure that you arrive safely to work, and then again in your return home to your friends and family at the end of the day. In order to ensure that you and I are prepared for each and every storm, I need access to professional forecast maps, models, and radars. Every year, I spend over $400 in order to get access to these websites. This year, I am asking for your help -- especially since a lot of you have been extremely supportive and have also become dependent on me for your information. Some of you even believe that I am more accurate than other local meteorologists, and that's always encouraging to hear. Without local meteorologists, however, I probably wouldn't be here today volunteering my time to weather. And even though I have mentioned before that a lot of meteorologists lean too heavily on certain forecast models, they are still great mentors to me, and because of this I have obtained a great deal of pertinent information from them over the past 20 years. I am thankful for all of them, and I am thankful for all of you.
