On 4th May 2016, Ronan sustained significant spinal injuries in an accidental fall from his bedroom window in Sligo, where he was a student at Sligo IT, which at present, has resulted in limited movement in lower limbs.
He underwent emergency surgery in the Mater Hospital, followed by a period of recovery in the National Rehabilitation Hospital. Ronan has made substantial progress during that time with movement in a number of muscle groups and has recently been discharged to return home to Letterkenny.
To maintain momentum and enable the best opportunity for full recovery, all avenues, equipment, mechanisms and spinal injury rehabilitation facilities are being explored. To support the financial cost of this, along with providing a high level of independence for Ronan through the recovery period, a number of fundraising events will take place over the coming weeks/months.
Details of some of these events are included below and will be updated with further information in the coming days/weeks.
