Romanian Orphanage in Need

Many of you know that my daughter, Madeline, is volunteering with 13 other amazing college students in an orphanage in Romania for 4 months this summer. They are doing amazing work there and giving the infants and toddlers the love and care they most definately need.
Saint Andrew's Orphanage is in the city of Iasi, Romania and is the only orphanage there that ensures recovery of babies and young children who have been abandoned by their parents due to their severe disabilities. Saint Andrew's is a residential center that cares for children with many issues such as blindness, neuromotor challenges and inability to communicate due to severe mental impairment.
The orphanage is in desperate need of wheelchairs for most of their orphans, as this is the only way they can leave their beds and have mobility and interaction with the other children. The few wheelchairs they have are not the correct sizes for young children and are rusty and dilapidated. Many of these children must spend their days in ther beds/cribs as there are not enough volunteers to tend to every child. They improvise by putting some children in umbrella strollers and tying them in with scarves so they will not fall out. To see children spending day after day confined to their beds has been heartbreaking for all of the volunteers and they are asking for our help!
The full time staff is loving and has done as much as they can with the resources they have. Madeline has spoken to the administrator of Saint Andrew's and received permission to start a campaign to raise money for these children and the wheelchairs they so desperately need. The cost per wheelchair is $305.75 US dollars and the strollers they need for the tiny infants to leave their cribs cost $106 US dollars each.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 US ...enough money for 14 new wheelchairs and 7 new infant strollers. If this goal is exceeded, the additional money will go to support these children with basic needs. On July 22nd my husband and I will personally travel to Romania and present Saint Andrew's Orphanage with 100% of the money raised. Every penny donated by you will go directly toward helping these precious and innocent children. Your gift will provide these blind, deaf, mentally and physically handicapped children that have been abandoned by their parents the ability to experience the simple joy of some mobility and a higher quality of life. Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated by workers and volunteers and provide them a means of leaving their cribs to have mobility to interact with other children and go outside into the fresh air.
