Rockaway Solutions not Shelters

As most of you know, there is a plan to open 120 bed, all men’s homeless shelter at 226 Beach 101st St. We are raising funds to pay for legal and architectural fees to stop them from moving forward with this plan. Part of our plan involves Dept of Buildings and slowing down the work being done but we have several different angles we are looking into in order to prove to a judge that this is an inappropriate location to house 120 men in need. This is near 4700 school kids, across the street from a Senior day care facility, in a flood zone and the list goes on.  The safety and security of our children and community are of upmost importance but the proper placement and services needed to care for homeless men is a top priority as well, which is why Rockaway isn’t the place for them. We have raised about $7000.00 as of today but another $18,000 is needed to cover the costs associated with stopping this shelter.
