2017 NYC Marathon and Frank Stokes

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
2017 marks the 10th year of my Dad and I volunteering to push Frank Stokes in the NYC Marathon with Achilles International, an organization that helps disabled athletes from around the world compete in road races. Since this may have to be our last year, we are raising funds for Frank, who is a 50'ish year old paraplegic who lost the use of his lower limbs when he was ten years old.

The NYC marathon is a special day for many people, but it is has unique impact for Frank. Frank lives in a state mandated hospital in upper Manhattan in a small room with only a locker and a few possessions. With such a solitary lifestyle, this one day of the year is pretty extraordinary for Frank.

We carry a sign that says Frank's name which induces thousands of spectators over the 26 miles to shout out words of encouragement. This acknowledgment produces a shy wave and a smile from our disabled athlete. Hundreds of runners stop to shake Frank'd hand, pat him on the back, or give him a thumbs up as they pass by.

We are raising the funds to give directly to Frank and he can do what he wants with them. Frank knows of our efforts and said that he wants to give the money back to Achilles to help other disabled athletes.

Frank would never have the opportunity to do this on his own without Achilles and without my Dad's support. Please  donate and THANK YOU in advance for your help!

Love,
Liz and Russ Robertson
