Rebecca's Brain and Heart Surgery
Donación protegida
***Any funds left over after Rebecca's expenses are covered will be donated to an Intracranial Hypertension research foundation***
This Go Fund Me is for my fiancee Rebecca's brain and heart surgery. Rebecca has been diagnosed with Secondary Intracranial Hypertension. This is a life-long, incurable disease in which the brain does not absorb the fluid surrounding and protecting it at the same rate the fluid is being produced. This causes a build up of fluid which can lead to severe headaches, serious pain in the neck and back, and complete loss of vision. There is only one effective medication that helps Secondary Intracranial Hypertension. It is called Diamox and it reduces the rate at which cerebral spinal fluid is produced. However, Rebecca has been unresponsive to the medication and her pain has only worsened. The only other treatment is a brain surgery where they insert a shunt into the brain that drains fluid into the abdomen. Rebecca received this shunt in April of 2015, but it has only shifted her pain to her abdomen, because the end of the shunt is aggravating her stomach. The pain is so horrible that she can no longer work, her pain medication is ineffective and she has had to apply for disability. In Decemeber, she will be receiving another surgery where she will have the shunt completely replaced and threaded into her heart. This is the most extreme treatment for her condition, but it is the last chance she has at living less painful, bearable life.
Rebecca has been my girlfriend for over two years and my fiancee for half a year. She is an absolutely amazing human being. She is only 19 years old, but has a long history of medical issues, including anemia (life-long and incurable), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (also life-long and incurable), B12 deficiency (leads to lesions in the brain), depression, and General Anxiety Disorder. Yet despite all these obstacles, she always manages to have a smile on her face and is always caring and sympathetic for those around her. Secondary Intracranial Hypertension has been the biggest problem she has ever faced. The pain has slowly worsened to the point where she spends most of the day trying to sleep just to avoid the pain. She hasn't been able to work for months, which means that she can no longer pay for her medical expenses. I am trying to help her, but I am looking for a job myself and attending college, so the best I have is currently is moral support.
That is why I have started this Go Fund Me. I hope that you will find our cause worthy of support. Every dollar will help my fiancee towards a less painful life.
