Right To Breathe

OBJECTIVE  
The objective of this event is to show racial solidarity and raise public awareness, and funds through yoga as a direct response to the recent injustices and inequalities faced by Black Americans.

CHARITY
The funds collected will be donated to Know Your Rights Campaign , a grassroots organization that teaches persons of color about their legal rights as well as advancing issues dealing with inequality. While this donation does not erase the racial injustice of the past or the present, we hope it plays a small part in positively impacting future change.


WHY 
We the event organizers firmly stand in solidarity with everyone who recognizes that the lives of Black Americans in this country matter. We vehemently condemn the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and all those who came before them. The pain that the Black community is feeling this moment in time is the direct consequence of decades of inequality and systemic oppression. As the seeds of unrest continue to sprout across this nation, we must do well to remember the prophesying words of Dr. Martin Luther King who brilliantly said, “riots are the language of the unheard”. The more we continue to turn a blind eye towards injustice, the worse conditions will become in this country. 


Yoga, by definition, means “union” and this event seeks to unify all those who wish to express and vent their frustration against the system through a collective display of asanas and breathing exercises meant to symbolize the power of the phrase “I can't breathe”. WE, in this instance, WILL BREATHE, and our voices will be heard as well as movements felt. We invite all those from the yoga community to join us.
