The Reserve Traffic Calming Project

Donation protected
As a result of the traffic calming study, The Town of Cary recommended installing two traffic calming measures at the Edgemore/Briardale intersections. In order to install the traffic calming measures, the Town of Cary wanted at least 70% of homeowners in the impacted area (defined by the Town of Cary) to support the installation. We received 70% approval for traffic circles in early August and are ready to start the fundraising portion of the initiative. We have been working closely with the Town of Cary throughout the process.   After the funds are raised, the last step in the process is for the Town Council to approve.

The traffic circles are estimated to cost $80,000 and because we achieved at least 70% support the Town of Cary has agreed to pay for $60,000 of the total cost. Now we need to raise the remaining funds. We have set up a GoFundMe site to collect the funds. If all households contribute, we’ll need $86 per household. Or $208 per household if only approvers in the impacted area contribute. The amount you choose to donate is up to you. Note that we will also be seeking to raise donations from surrounding neighborhoods that frequently drive through our neighborhood to get to school or work.

We have 60 days to collect the funds. If we do not reach our goal, 100% of your donation will be refunded. Checks are acceptable – please make them out to the Town of Cary. Please email using the link provided and you will be guided where to drop the check.

Why traffic circles vs. speed humps?

• Traffic circles are more effective at slowing down motorists.
• Local Emergency Services prefer traffic circles over speed humps.
• Traffic circles indicate you are entering a neighborhood and you are more likely to slow down.
• As signatures were collected, it was clear there was greater support for traffic circles.

Why only two Traffic Circles?

• Two traffic circles is what the Town of Cary recommended.
• The Town of Cary can monitor the impact after implementation.
• Homeowners can work with the Town to evaluate if additional measures would be beneficial.
