Financial devastation in Venezuela has resulted a severe lack of reproductive freedom for Venezuelan women. It's estimated that 80% of women who want contraception in Venezuela can't get it and adolescent birth rates have skyrocketed to twice the global rate. A three pack of condoms costs three times the monthly minimum wage and birth control pills twice that. Desperate women are driven to dangerous illegal abortions, for which the punishment is three years in prison, or worse, death from an unsafe medical procedure.
Kitsap County Skeptics and Kitsap Atheists have partnered with Guido David Núñez-Mujica, founder of Salto, to get much needed funds directly to women in need. Your donation of $40 will provide a birth control implant that lasts three years for a woman of reproductive age in Venezuela. A $60 donation will pay for the health worker and clinical costs.
We are starting small here - with our initial fundraising intended to help 25 women. However we'd love to help a lot more! Please consider giving anything you can afford. Even $5 can pay for the required pregnancy test before implantation. You can have a direct, positive impact on a woman's life and that of her whole family.
