Past due rent payment

Like many people, you never want to depend on other people. But sometimes life can get in the way. Earlier this year on Jan 8th my mother passed away, since then the bills piled up. Our rent was usually paid at the start of the month and cashed in the middle.

When my mother passed we had to move to cash the rent check to the end of the month. That essentially put rent 1 month behind. But that was not the only thing. With the extra bills, my stepfather's car payment got behind 2 months. We've been living on fast food, chicken paddies, and ramen noodles lately just to save money. 

I am reaching out because today we got a letter of an eviction and need to pay the back rent by Wed Dec 18th or be forced out.  The past due rent that they require is $2400 and the car payment is $1100. 

I am reaching out because I don't know what else to do. If we are able to get the rent paid to current the rest of the bills can be paid ok. I have been actively trying to find employment to help with costs, as of right now I have not had any responses.
