Help Regis Get a Wheelchair Van

・WHEELS FOR REGIS・

Regis was born with Cerebral Palsy and, since a child, has had limited mobility. Although he relies mainly on family and friends to help with everyday needs, being in a wheelchair has still been a struggle. His most supportive companion is his dog, Oliver, who has been with him for almost eight years. They are the best of friends! And he has PCA staff (personal care assistants) who help with his everyday needs and cares deeply about him. They assist him with daily activities like eating, bathing, and getting around beyond his home.

Despite his challenges, Regis is still the director of his own life. He loves attending musicals and wrestling shows but, most importantly, visiting his family. He is a strong independent man with a big heart. His current wheelchair-handicapped van, over 23 years old, is on its last wheels. It is his only mode of transportation. He has been dealing with quick patches for the breaks, rotting floorboards, steering problems, and overheating. Now we are waiting to see if the latest problem can be fixed. And time is running out. 2023 has begun, and he might not be able to see loved ones this year as his van continues to deny him the access he needs to visit them. He needs your help to purchase a new van that is wheelchair accessible and can help him live the life he has always lived.

In an accessible vehicle (ie, wheelchair van), the floor is extended and the van is equipped with a lightweight ramp for a low-grade incline, making for an easy entry and exit for Regis. (Please read a more detailed description of this vehicle listed below.)

Regis wants to continue living his best life, and you can help him do that. Support will allow him to continue seeing his family regularly, run errands like grocery shopping, and visit doctors and dentists. A brand-new wheelchair/handicapped-accessible van can cost up to $80,000. Being on a fixed income, it's just too much. He is inching closer, but there is still a way to go.

Regis is always so positive regardless of what life throws at him and is eager for a new wheelchair-accessible van to keep him living life to the fullest. Any help is greatly appreciated. And it will certainly get Regis the van he so badly needs. I have never known anyone quite as deserving and so loving. And so can you!

WHAT IS A WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE VAN?

Most people would agree that comfortable transportation is a valued asset that many of us take for granted. For wheelchair-bound individuals, comfortable transportation often means having access to a wheelchair-accessible van.

  • A wheelchair-accessible van provides reliable transportation to those with special needs giving wheelchair-dependent individuals like Regis the freedom to run errands, go to appointments, or simply enjoy a road trip.
  • A wheelchair-accessible van is a vehicle that has been modified by increasing the interior size of the vehicle and equipping it with a means of wheelchair entry, such as a wheelchair ramp or powered lift.

Did you know that there are 61 million adults living with a disability in the United States? That means that 1 in 4 adults in the country lives with some type of disability. Disabled Americans are a large part of the population. People with disabilities have needs for adaptations that many of us might not even think about or might take for granted. And one of these needs is a wheelchair/handicapped accessible van that Regis needs, too!
