Re-Entry Relief for Terrel Barros

Donation protected
After serving more than 11 years of wrongful imprisonment at the Rhode Island Maximum Security Prison, Terrel Barros' unjust conviction has finally been overturned. He had been wrongly sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 30 years for a murder he did not commit. Throughout his incarceration, Terrel maintained his innocence, encapsulating his stance with the phrase, "It's not innocent until proven guilty, it's guilty until proven innocent."

In overturning Terrel's conviction, the judge cited statements from a newly emerged witness and proof that he was deprived of a fair trial and adequate legal representation in 2013.

In these last 11 years, Terrel marked significant life events in solitude and missed cherished moments with family and friends. Terrel's 20’s and early 30’s were unjustly taken away – years that many of us use to build our personal identities, careers, and families. But now, a brand-new chance has emerged for Terrel to build the life he wants and deserves. He envisions creating businesses and offering assistance to fellow individuals who've faced wrongful convictions.

This page aims to offer re-entry support for Terrel, where we stand with him to overcome physical, financial, and emotional obstacles faced in post-incarceration. Every donation made to this GoFundMe campaign will directly support Terrel as he reintegrates into society following 11 years of wrongful imprisonment.

Terrel’s case has been supported by the Making an Exoneree program at Georgetown University, led by Marc Howard and Marty Tankleff, where three then-undergraduate students worked with lawyers and DNA experts to reveal the state’s misleading testimonies and bring about new witnesses.
