Dear Family and Friends,
In the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, we count our blessings and do our best to help those affected by the storm. Many families still can't return home after the historic floodings that have paralyzed Houston. Our cousins are among those families. Their neighborhood was inundated for several miles, causing severe damage to many homes. The water rose to about 7 inches inside their home. Although they did their best to prepare for the storm, they eventually had to be transported by boat from their own front door in order to escape the rising floods. Like the vast majority of Houstonians, they do not have flood insurance. Not only are they still unable to return home, but they will also have to pay for all of the repairs to their home out of pocket.
The repairs are significant. On their first day back to the home, to which they had to travel via truck and then kayak, there was still about an inch of water left inside. Even today, the third day of repairs, we had to travel by truck in order to reach their home, since it is still inaccessible by car due to the high water. The road to recovery is long. Today we continued demolition: pulling out baseboards, knocking out sheetrock to about 4 feet up the wall, continuing to use the shop vac to suction out the water from the walls, and ripping out the lower cabinets, appliances, and counter tops. Unfortunately, several of the counter tops were broken in the demolition and will need to be replaced. The stagnant waters outside and rising mosquito population means that it won't be safe for them to sleep in their second floor for the foreseeable future.
Now is the time to help. We care deeply about these wonderful people. We're pulling together to let them know that we are with them and will help them restore their home and their sense of normalcy after such tumultuous and stressful times.

There are no words to describe the magnitude of the affects of Hurricane Harvey. It is a somber event that has effected thousands and thousands of individuals not only in Houston but in other parts of our state.
We have been on a roller coaster of emotions that vacillate from gratitude to despair. The despair is not from the losses of our material things but rather from the loss of control of our circumstances to provide our daughter with the certainty of a home.
A home that we have built in Katy, Texas where her certainty and our certainty is that she would always be loved and feel safe. The home and neighborhood where we have created this home has been destroyed.
This is where we can choose to dwell but we don't...
With hearts full of gratitude, we praise God that we have lost NOTHING that cannot be replaced. We are also getting to see the goodness of people caring for family, friends, and strangers. THIS is HOME!!
The outpouring of support from others has been a humbling experience.
It is challenging for us to accept help from others. But in reality, we have NEVER built our lives alone.
Christian, Claudia, Emilia, and Jorge - Ya'll were sent here to Houston to be our angels!! We can't help but laugh at the irony that "baby" cousin is taking care of the eldest cousin!! Go figure!
And in case ya'll are wondering, Amaury is still barking out orders for us to do push-ups!

Como saben, la casa de Amaury y Margie se inundó a consecuencia del huracán Harvey. El primer piso quedó dañado. Habrá que arreglar las paredes, gabinetes de la cocina, algunos muebles, etc. Sabemos que todos han estado al pendiente y ofreciendo su ayuda, así que abrimos esta página para poder recolectar fondos para ayudar a solventar los gastos que implica arreglar el primer piso. El dinero recaudado sera depositado directamente en la cuenta de Margie y se utilizara a su discrecion para reparar los daños mencionados anteriormente.
