Roy Davis Jr is, in no uncertain terms, a legendary DJ and producer from Chicago who has helped to define electronic music for several generations.
His self titled soul-electrica sound is a hybrid of garage, disco, r&b, house, hip hop and soul and it has graced everything from underground imprints to major league labels since way back in the 1990s, including the likes of Defected, Strictly Rhythm, King Street Sounds, XL Recordings and Universal, Sony and Warner Brothers. As a DJ Roy Davis Jr commands dancefloors and festival stages all over the world with his tight and masterful mixing at places like Smart Bar in Chicago, Yellow in Japan and Fabric in London.
As announced on his artist facebook page last week, Roy has been unexpectedly diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis).
We have urgently joined together as a music community to give back to a person who has given us all so much over the years. Roy faces a long road to recovery and an increasing tally of medical bills due to the rigorous treatment and medication that is required.
He also has cancelled his upcoming tour schedule to focus his energy on healing and rest. Touring is Roy's main source of income and the last thing any of us want is for Roy to be worried about finances while healing and gaining his strength.
