Randy Ward is retiring at the end of this school year. I never thought I'd hear those words.
When I was a graduate student, none of us believed that it would ever happen. The department is going to be a pretty strange place without him. A few of us decided that if he ever announced plans to leave, we'd want to be sure that his parting gift was one that fit into his very particular aesthetic. We were learning about George Nakashima when we decided that would be the answer... if we could pull it off. A Nakashama Lounge Chair Rocker allows us to give him the gift of a traditional "college chair" but with a Randy-style twist.
I have been in contact with the George Nakashima Woodworkers Studio in New Hope, PA, and this is the email response that I received:
Dear Allie,
Thank you for your inquiry of our Lounge Chair Rocker!
A baseline price for Walnut Lounge Chair Rocker in standard glued-up seat starts $3,100. Single-Board seat is $3,700, Single-Board Figured Grain Seat is $4,300.
FYI, With Free-form arm or two shaped-arms rocker is $4,400.
We are now scheduling production towards the end of the year. If this is satisfactory, please let me know.

I set the goal for this GoFundMe to $5000, assuming that this chair should have two arms ($4400), and I don't know how the shipping process works. I am willing to make the trip to deliver myself if that makes sense, I also have relationships with a couple of crating and trucking companies if that's a better option.
