Rainbow Alley; "Growing a Community"
During lockdown a local community in Belfast came together to use the alleyways as a potential space for an urban garden. Fast forward 9 months and local residents founded the project as 'Rainbow Alley'. In this short space of time, local residents of Rainbow Alley established an urban apple orchard, provided gardening workshops, created green spaces for local wildlife, encouraged locals to grow their own fruit an veg & engaged with a wide and vast cross section of residents. From the old to the young, from the most vulnerable to the isolated, from keen gardeners to those just starting out ... everything was going well until Rainbow Alley was robbed.
During the week Rainbow Alley was a target of a selfish robbery which has diminished the apple orchard and fruit plants. Residents are now extremely concerned about what this means for the future of Rainbow Alley. Funds are needed promptly to secure and help residents continue with their work.
Rainbow Alley Robbery Irish New Article
Previously, local residents of Rainbow Alley have made personal donations and relied on volunteer groups to come out and provide workshops, trees, plants, flowers, soil, planters & equipment. Unfortunately due to the robbery, local residents will have to provide everything to replace all that has been damaged and lost.
Supporting our fundraiser will enable Rainbow Alley to secure the urban garden and replace everything that has been stolen and vandalised. Unfortunately securing and locking down planters, trees, tools, equipment and providing security comes with an extra added cost.
Rainbow Alley's urban garden has provided much needed therapy to local residents who have struggled with mental health & chronic isolation. Rainbow Alley is not just a garden, it is has been a remedy and solution to mental anguish & suffering. Something that residents want to continue with.
Co Founder Joanne, " During lockdown I started gardening, I had never gardened before in my life.. I am bi polar and sitting outside in a green area is just wonderful...no doctor ever gave me a prescription to say being outdoors and volunteering with your community was going to help your mental help but it does, it totally does."

We want to thank everyone for their kind words & donations. This means so much to our community and truly makes a difference to the lives of those who live here.
Thank you
