THE HERBAL JUSTICE FUND

In 2018 Railyard Apothecary started the Herbal Justice Fund because we believe that everyone has the right to choose safe, effective, and socio-culturally relevant health care. Through the Herbal Justice Fund, we offer consultation services, scholarships, and herbal medicine to BIPOC individuals as a form of reparations and to individuals with limited financial resources. The mission of the Herbal Justice Fund is to support our community in accessing the healing power of plants and herbal knowledge that feels appropriate to them, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Herbal Justice Fund participants receive up to $50/month worth of bulk herbs and/or herbal tinctures, discounts on individualized consultations, and free attendance to Railyard-sponsored classes. This unique program centers choice and access in herbal care, and seeks to empower individuals to choose which plants they work with, which medicine is right for them, and which herbal educational opportunities to pursue.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Demand for the Herbal Justice Fund has consistently outpaced our ability to fundraise for the program, and we have had a longstanding waitlist of community members hoping to access the program. Please donate today to help us meet the need for herbal care in our community. All donations directly support community members in accessing herbal care on a monthly basis.

WHY IT MATTERS

Our program has very real impacts in participants' lives. From a recent survey of program participants, 100% of respondents said the Herbal Justice Fund has improved their health and wellbeing. The impacts of the program, however, ripple out beyond program participants. The majority of survey respondents also reported that the program has increased their knowledge of herbal medicine and has enabled them to support other people in their lives. Moreover, many of our program participants are caregivers themselves. By supporting the well being of caregivers, we are improving their ability to care for others.

"I really need the Herbal Justice Fund to support my ability to afford tinctures and I use the fund on a monthly basis... I am a senior citizen and am not working due to health issues. I take herbal tinctures daily and they are very important to my health."

"It’s helped me access herbs I wouldn’t normally have access too. It allows me to prioritize myself in a way I don’t usually get to. Healthcare hasn’t been super accessible and having people in my life with varying legal status makes it so I look for other ways to stay healthy."

"The Herbal Justice Fund has allowed me to care for myself...As a Black mother, my chance of dying or experiencing long term disability from pregnancy is very high. Because I had access to herbs throughout my pregnancy and postpartum period, I’ve been in great health and am able to fully show up and enjoy my sweet baby."
