Before the Son - Short Film

Hey friends. Thank you for getting this far - it shows your willingness to support Alex and myself in our projects. For those who don't know me, my name's Harry Pearse and I am a writer and actor in the film 'Before The Son' alongside Alex Champion de Crespigny.

Firstly we would like to preface that all donations will go to the support of emerging filmmakers, the making of this film and the local film industry - any donations raised we won't benefit from, our time invested in the film is free of charge and to ensure the successful outcome of the film.

"Before The Son" is a gripping, heartfelt short film that provides an exploration of intergenerational trauma. We aim to illustrate how certain life events and traumas can profoundly impact the lives of ourselves and our loved ones and how that without noticing it, can impact the lives of generations to come.

The film begins following Jason, a soon-to-be father with no resources, as he navigates the birth of his first child with his pregnant girlfriend Essie, in the bath of their small, quaint home. Xavier, Essie's brother, who is at the mercy of a prescription pill addiction and a lifetime of a horrible upbringing - lets Jason know that tonight was the night they committed to doing a 'job' with a 3rd party, in a perilous scheme to rob a chemist. Amid the whirlwind and chaos of this night, Jason is confronted with a life-changing decision that could affect the life of his newborn.

This will be Alex and my third film together. We wrote this film out of our love and passion for acting and filmmaking. Trying to forge a path in a very competitive industry, we want to be able to make opportunities for ourselves and other emerging local filmmakers and creatives and ultimately give back to the local film industry, creating work that will support us and showcase our storytelling abilities.

All support and donations will go towards the making of the film - Camera and lens hire, Gaffer and lighting, sound, cinematography, locations and post-production which includes editing, colour grading and post-mixing.

Before the Son will be directed by Jay Peardon and produced by Ben Corlett.

About us -

Harrison Ilan Pearse is an up-and-coming Australian Writer and Actor. After finishing studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2021, Harrison was selected for the Warner brother's top 10 actors in training program. Harrison has gone on to write the film 'Why We Fight' which will commence filming in July. Harrison recently wrapped up on the television series 'One Night' which will be released globally on Paramount+ in September 2023.

Alex Champion de Crespigny is an Australian actor and writer. With credits including Netflix's massively successful reboot of ‘Heartbreak High’ (2022), Channel 7’s ‘RFDS’ (2023) and the first ever Australian Disney+ Show, 'The Last Days of The Space Age' which will release later this year.

A natural born writer and creative, Alex worked for four years as a journalist for Australia’s largest men’s lifestyle publication before changing lanes into the entertainment industry.

Since then, his debut TV Show 'Boys' is currently in Pre-Production.

J. C. Peardon is a Perth born Writer, Actor and director, a graduate of WAAPA’s bachelor of acting in 2020. J.C. has most recently been seen on stage as Jay Gatsby in Sydney’s production of The Great Gatsby (2022). His film credits include Peanut (2021), Lullaby (2021) and in 2023 J. C. launched Kid Flo films with Harrison Pearse.
J. C. is currently in production for a WA produced short film “Sundowners” that he has written and stars in; following the story of Dan and his teenage brother Jessie, who are homeless, living out of the back of their car, trying to survive the current rental and financial crisis.

Ben is an award winning actor, director and writer whose latest short films have gained significant attention at major film festivals around the world. The eldest brother of the Corlett family, his latest short, AWAKENED, won Ben the award of Best Indie Filmmaker at the Los Angeles Film Awards. He also won the award for Best Actor in a Short Film at the 2021 New York Film Festival for his starring role in AWAKENED. He will next be seen on the upcoming Ten/Paramount+ original series PAPER DOLLS and the long-running Seven television series HOME & AWAY
