Raíces, Árboles y Educacíon

As a global health nurse and volunteer in Honduras for the past decade, I know that sustainable change requires collaboration and involvement of the whole community. This project arose from a village meeting we held in February 2019 in rural, southern Honduras–where community leaders identified clean water, food and education as the most critical needs of the village.
Project Raíces, Árboles y Educacíon (Roots, Trees and Education) begins with an agroforestry plan to plant fruit trees around the only water source in the community providing additional sources of fruit and vitamins for the village. The trees will also diversify the agriculture and help to prevent erosion around the small water source. An organic composting project with pesticide education will be included, as the cancer rate in the community is shockingly high and villagers are unknowingly applying pesticides that have been linked to cancer, including glyphosate.
In addition, this project will include start up funds to support a community organized high school–where 18 older students will meet once per week to continue learning. Public education ends for the majority of children in Honduras at age 13 .
One thousand dollars will allow our team to achieve these three goals. Please help us by contributing even a few dollars.
More information about Mayor Potencial Corporation: Mayor Potencial goes the distance to serve destitute rural Honduran communities and develop lasting partnerships for lasting impact. We inspire volunteers to disseminate social change and empower youth in Honduras through education. At the heart of our mission is the voice of those we serve.
