As a storybook tale would tell, Rachel Phillips and Paul Cerio would bring their new baby into the world after 9 months of healthy pregnancy. That is the story all new parents hope for. Unfortunately, the reality for Rachel and Paul has not been as storybook as they wished.
Two days ago, I found Rachel unconscious at our home in Pinetop, AZ. My young daughter Rachel, only 23-weeks pregnant had a seizure. I arrived just in time to attend to her and call 9-11.
Physicians feared for Rachel's life, as well as her unborn daughter, and rushed Rachel and Paul by air transit from Show Low to to Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, AZ. They arrived within 30 minutes and were rushed to surgery.
Surgeons performed an emergency cesarean section to deliver my granddaughter, Maxxine Kelli Anne Cerio, weighing 1 pound, 1 oz.
Many miracles have already been performed for Rachel. Had I not arrived sooner, it is likely my beautiful Rachel would no longer be with us. Had Rachel not been transported so quickly to Banner Hospital and the surgeons performed the procedure so well, our tiny miracle baby Maxxine, wouldn’t stand a chance! We have faith Maxxine will make it and her mother will be strong soon.
So, this is why we have created the GoFundMe page. Rachel is out of ICU and making great improvement. Her daughter, Maxxine is hanging on strong at Desert Banner Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She’s a fighter. The next few months will be critical for them both. These months will also be expensive. After Rachel makes a full recovery, she, Paul and I will be hours away from home to stay close to Maxxine. Donations will go to medical costs as well as expenses for the family as they stay in Mesa.
If there are any friends and family who have ways to help beyond donations, please send us a direct message. This page has been written and created by a family friend, David. He wrote it in ‘first person’ for the sake of clarity, but I will make further edits in the near future and add my own updates and things progress.
Please continue to pray for us. With faith, I believe Rachel, Paul and their amazing new daughter will make it back home to Pinetop soon as a family.
