Alzheimers is the 6th leading cause of death in the US and the only one without any type of prevention or even a way to slow it down. The number of deaths it has caused has grown 66% since 2000.
I have been personally affected by the disease as I'm sure many of my friends and acquaintances have, but I have also run into a lot of people who don't know much about the disease.
I think it is important to be aware of this epidemic that is becoming an increasingly important problem for our generation. Until the last ten years this was thought of as an old persons disease, however every year the number of young-onset sufferers is growing exponentially. My mom was diagnosed in 2004 at the age of 53 and this is not an uncommon occurrence. With the baby boomer generation moving into their 50's and 60's these numbers are bound to keep growing.
Whether by giving what you can to this fund, attending the run/walk in Ludlow, or just by spreading awareness to those you know and love I urge you to do your part.
