Reparations Campaign for Descendant of Enslaved Africans: Supporting Catrice Jackson's Wellness and Anti-racism Work
4/30/2020 - UPDATE: ( from Catrice) - We secured a home in November 2019 and have been settling into lovely space as new home owners. Within the first weeks of moving in we had our first home owners "problem." We had some flooding in the basement and had to get that repaired. We've been in the house now for 5 months and continue to of course discover work that needs to be done so the home can stay in good condition while hopefully increasing the market value for generations to come. We've decided that this home will be heir property. Meaning it will stay in the family as long as the taxes are paid and cannot be sold after we pass away. THIS is our attempt to create generational wealth for future generations. THIS is something that due to slavery, Jim Crow and current racism and discrimination, many black people are not able to do. Additionally, we need to get some interior things done to prepare the space for my mother if/when it is time for her to no longer live alone. Which was always a part of the plan upon choosing this particular house. We are grateful for all of your support and contributions that helped make this happen. We are still accepting contributions to be sure to make sure the house lasts for generations to come, to include repairs, some internal reconstruction, property taxes, legal fees and maintenance. Hi, my name is Sarah. I am the co-founder and co-owner of Trio Plant-based. Trio is a vegan restaurant with a foundation of racial justice in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I am an unwavering proponent of reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans. And I am thrilled to invite you to be a part of my campaign for reparations.
Reparations are a matter of common sense and human decency for those of us who accept simple historical facts.
It is a historical fact that the United States was founded by kidnapping and enslaving African people.
The debt created from the grave injustice of these atrocities cannot ever be fully repaid, but people of good conscience know the effort must be made.
We should not pretend that we have not benefited from the enslavement of African people.
We must repay debts because our ancestors *stole* from them, and we have benefited from that theft of life, liberty, and labor.
My ancestors didn’t even perpetrate the crimes against humanity of which I speak, but I know I have reaped (and continue to reap) the benefits from the wrongs that were committed. As a Korean-American, I am a person of color, but I also benefit from anti-Blackness. Maybe it’s because I don’t have an ancestral tie to the injustices that I can see so clearly what you cannot...or will not. Regardless, the truth remains. Call upon your conscience to guide you here. It will never mislead you.
You don’t have to wait for there to be consensus amongst white people or for there to be a bill passed by Congress to believe in and pay reparations. You can repay your debt on your own.
I am so honored to introduce you to my dear friend Catrice Jackson. Catrice is a descendant of enslaved Africans.

Catrice is a brilliant anti-racism educator with decades of giving back in clinical and educational settings. But Catrice has severe knee pain in her right knee and must have surgery soon. Catrice is also dealing with arthritis in her left knee. Prior to Catrice's upcoming knee surgery, she and her family must move to a one-level home to best facilitate her recovery after surgery.
Extremely modest calculations call for $1.5 million for each descendant of the enslavement of African people in the U.S. I am asking white people to pay reparations for a housing down payment.
The extra $3k will cover the transaction processing fees charged by GoFundMe. And anything above $103,000 will be used for homeowners insurance and repairs.
