With no warning or prior consultation, the State Government announced Westbury, our small historic tourism town, as the preferred site to build a maximum security prison. Many in our community are shocked and devastated at the lack of transparency and consultation that has led to our small rural community being selected.
With 82% of Westbury residents opposed to the prison being built at that site, and the State Government not listening to our pleas to abandon the site and start the process over, we will now need to pay independent consultants and professionals to help us in our fight against the Government over their proposal, and we need your help and generosity.
As a democracy we can not let the State Government plough over small communities. We need to stand up and let the Government know this is not ok. If you cherish Westbury and small historic towns, if you cherish democracy and people having the right to say what developments happen in their home towns, then please donate and share our campaign. If we allow them to do this to Westbury, then they can do this anywhere.
