Smile Back

Hi all, my name is Ashley. I’m a 35 year old single mother of 2.

Since 2007 I have struggled tremendously with my teeth decaying despite having them taken care of. In 2015 I started my journey to have them repaired, originally I just wanted them all pulled and to get dentures then but my dentist insisted that I was still young and they were save-able and convinced me to get a partial. In 2016 (the picture I used is from back then) I got my partials; not long after one of the supporting teeth broke and I gave up. Here we are, approaching 10 years later. My teeth are awful and I need to have them all removed before they start making sick.

I work hard and always have but my finances are a struggle having to have rebuilt my life from the ground up. I never ask for help, I find it slightly humiliating and embarrassing, but I’m asking for help now because when I got that partial in 2016 it was through the state coverage and they won’t cover dentures for me now.

As I have been accepted through the Pitt School Dental program they will not be as much as going to a private dentist so I’m setting the goal at $15,000 since through search that was the highest estimate for dentures; this doesn’t cover the cost of lost wages missing work for appointments, transportation, or other expenses. Considering it is a program I am obligated to attending 3 hour appointments.

Update: My first appointment was August 27th. I learned that, on top of having all of my teeth removed, my 3 “hidden” (impacted) teeth will have to have some work done too because they are sitting on a nerve and could cause potential issues with the success of the lower denture. My next appointment is Sept 16. I will be seeing the oral surgeon to go over his thoughts for best course of action, aside from putting me to sleep.

At the end of this journey I want to ✨smile back and give a smile back✨ by donating what is left of the proceeds to someone else.
