Land that has been cultivated is more difficult to confiscate by the State of Israel. For confiscations they use an old Ottoman Law that says land that has not been planted can be claimed by the State.
The olive tree is a symbol of peace and resistance. The olive tree doesn't require a lot of water or work but gives olives in abundance. Palestinians call it a blessed tree. They refer to the olive tree as a family member.
Palestinians are rooted in the land just like their olive trees. Israel has continuously destroyed olive trees since its expansion and colonization of the Westbank for the construction of jewish only settlements, the Wall, bypass roads and for military purposes.
We plant olive trees every year during our visit Palestine programs, around Christmas, in the end of January during the planting program and in the end of March during the Land Day tour.
We invite as many people as possible to join us for these programs. But if you can't make it personally over here, you can still do something! You can help us in planting the olive trees, in organizing transportation of the trees and protection materials for the small trees. All you donations will go directly to supporting the farmers who are struggling to keep their land.
Please share this initiative with as many people as possible.
If you are interested to join us for one of the visit Palestine programs, check out all information on our website www.tobe-there.com
We are very grateful for everybody who cares about Palestine and we appreciate any form of solidarity.
The first tree planting will be in 3 months time and we are hoping to raise enough money to plant at least 100 olive trees during Christmas. Please help us raise the first 500 euro to do that!
