My name is Theryn and I'm raising money for my neighbor and her kids to have a Christmas for their history books.
A few days ago, I had a difficult decision to make. While sitting at home, my duplex neighbors began fighting. I ignored it at first, but I heard the prolonged sounds of distressed screaming and couldn't risk the safety of someone whom I could help. I didn't want to call the police because, as we know, that can escalate situations and cause more harm than good. However, the escalation of the screams solidified my decision to call the police/CPS.
Everyone was found safe, but the youngest child (who I believe may be autistic) was having a meltdown. Living in the house is a mother (who is physically and/or mentally ill and unable to properly care for her children), the eldest daughter (who works nights and takes care of all the kids), two teenage kids, a 10-year-old, and a 6-year-old. The daughter explained that the child has behavioral needs and she is overwhelmed with trying to take care of all of the kids who don't listen to her. She was crying and pleading. The police saw the state of the home and required that they fix it immediately as it wasn't currently fit for the kids.
When the police left, the woman started pleading with her family for help. She can't do it alone. The kids have been in and out of foster care, but now that the daughter is old enough, she's able to take care of them, but she's doing so at the cost of her mental health.
Many times we want to punish adults and kids for being overwhelmed and needing support, instead of giving them what they need to thrive. I don't want to be that kind of person, and so this holiday season I'm asking that you help this family who is struggling financially, emotionally, and mentally.
Anything helps, and everything donated will be withdrawn on December 23rd in order to bless this family with the help that they need this year.
Thank you in advance for your help and support to this family in need <3
