Two weeks ago, my little brother Justin was at work when he suddenly couldn’t breathe. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered that his right lung had collapsed. He was transferred to another hospital and had surgery a few days later.

Unfortunately, after a week in the hospital, we’ve learned that the first surgery may not have worked, and the doctors are preparing to take him back in for another procedure.

My brother has always worked hard as a waiter to support himself, but this unexpected medical crisis has kept him out of work for three weeks already. Since his income depends on daily shifts and tips, he has no way to cover his October bills while he’s in the hospital recovering.

He paid September’s rent before all of this happened, but now he’s facing the reality of missed work, more time in the hospital, and the uncertainty of what comes next. We are hopeful and praying that this next surgery will be successful and that he’ll be back home soon.
