We're fundraising to support local educator/activist, poet, elder, and inspiration Julia Bayha with the funds to purchase a vehicle. Her car engine quit while driving in traffic and burst into flames in early July. Luckily she was uninjured, but the daily impact is more than she often expresses. As someone who deals with multiple disabilities, having a car is of extra importance, not only for her - but it allows her to continue doing her community activism. So let’s give her a miracle and make the process of replacing her car as swift as possible.
In addition to the cost of the car to be purchased, we hope to cover other related expenses. While our goal is $7000, we hope to surpass that as $10,000 would provide a better quality car and help cover the additional expenses for dealing with the old car and other costs from getting around in the meantime.
Other forms of support could include you sharing this fundraiser.
Julia has been organizing and supporting community efforts around sustainability, eradicating racism, sexism, classism and ableism - and general advocacy and engagement for over five decades. She also has and continues to fundraise and project manage community-driven climate resilience projects in Jamaica for four farm villages. Julia lends her experience, insights, and passionate energy to many online communities supporting and connecting for the welfare of people across the region, country, and planet. Some of the supplies lost in the car fire were food, clothing, toiletries and other resources she distributes to homeless people and low-income families. If her thousands of hours of daily and weekly unpaid labor were compensated even below today's minimum wage, she'd have much more than this $7,000!
We invite you to help us show how much she is appreciated and contribute to this fundraiser. We will post updates as milestones are reached and of course, celebratory news when she is driving around in her new car!
