The trash dump fires have been burning again, mixed waste full of plastic whose flames spew a thick, dark smoke that spreads across the valley blanketing our air, our homes, our lungs, our children with cancer-causing, neurotoxic chemicals like dioxin.
There is one man who's tireless and selfless efforts have been keeping tons and tons of plastic out of the dump and out of the burning fires over the last several years, and he needs our help to be able to stay open and keep operating.
His name is Alex Miró and he is the founder and operator of our community's only recycling collection center. It is called Punto Verde which he runs as a non-profit called Eco-rrrevolucion A.C. ---> (https://www.ecorrrevolucion.org/) <---
Thanks to Alex, far less plastic is being turned into toxic smoke each time the dump burns. He is also spearheading work with the government to build the recycling and proper solid waste management infrastructure so that in the future the dump won't have to be burned even as our community grows.
He also accepts and recycles tons of cardboard and paper, metals, styrofoam, and clear glass. The positive impact of Punto Verde to this community is immeasurable, but as I said, he needs our help now.
The economics of recycling here is not financially sustainable. It costs Alex more in fuel for his truck to deliver a load of recyclables to La Paz than he gets paid for the materials. That means that in order to keep operating, he relies on donations to his non-profit.
Right now, Alex is facing a budget shortfall for the year 2020, and if he doesn't get help soon, he may have to close the gates of Punto Verde.

All funds raised are going to provide general support for fuel and other operating expenses to keep Punto Verde open and sustain Alex's efforts.

Los incendios del vertedero de basura cada rato se estan quemando, desechos mezclados llenos de plástico cuyas llamas arrojan un humo espeso y oscuro que se extiende por el valle, llenando el aire, nuestros hogares, nuestros pulmones, y nuestros niños con químicas neurotóxicas y cancerígenas como la dioxina.
Hay un hombre cuyos esfuerzos incansables durante los últimos años han mantenido toneladas y toneladas de plástico fuera del basurero, y ahora necesita nuestra ayuda para poder permanecer abierto y seguir operando.
Se llama Alex Miró y es el fundador y operador del Punto Verde, el único centro de recolección de reciclaje de nuestra comunidad. Alex lo dirige como una organización sin fines de lucro llamada Eco-rrrevolucion A.C. ---> (https://www.ecorrrevolucion.org/) <---
Gracias a Alex, mucho menos plástico se está convirtiendo en humo tóxico cada vez que se quema el vertedero. También encabeza el trabajo con el gobierno para construir la infraestructura adecuada para el manejo correcto de residuos sólidos para que en el futuro el vertedero no tenga que quemarse.
También en el Punto Verde acepta y recicla toneladas de cartón y papel, metales, espuma de poliestireno (unicel) y vidrio transparente. El impacto positivo del Punto Verde en esta comunidad es inconmensurable, pero como mencioné, Alex necesita nuestra ayuda ahora.
La economía del reciclaje aquí no es financieramente sostenible. A Alex le cuesta más combustible llevando su camión para entregar una carga de reciclables a La Paz que recibe por vender los materiales. Eso significa que para seguir operando, depende de nuestros donaciones.
En este momento, Alex enfrenta un déficit presupuestario para el año 2020, y si no recibe ayuda pronto, puede que tenga que cerrar las puertas del Punto Verde.
