                                 Where We Were (2011)
                           Where We Are Now (2015)

Lady Mahogany

I want to start by thanking you for taking time out to consider being part of this life changing event. Blessings in a Book Bag is near and dear to my heart for many reasons.

The biggest reason being, I too know what it means to be hungry. I can remember sitting in class with an empty stomach trying to concentrate but it was no use.   Specifically, I struggled with math because of its linear learning structure that requires you to build on top of the subsequent lessons.  In my case there were many days when my stomach growling and cramping became too much of a distraction for me to absorb any information.

I became lost, and have struggled with math till this day.  In addition to hunger, in the 5thgrade I found out after being tested that I am ADD and Dyslexic. Hunger affected me not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. I have been homeless and without food. As a child I felt helpless.

From Bartow Elementary to the very first Graduating class of Savannah Arts Academy, I knew what hard work and dedication was. Now, I'm in a position in life to do what others did for me.  And that's help.  I am sincerely asking you to donate to this program. It only takes $80 to feed a child for an entire year. Now I want you to stop and think about how much you spend a week on eating out, buying cigarettes, or playing the lottery.  Please find it in your heart to help these children because you never know the possibilities of a future leader.

November 22, 2011 I was awakened by a voice that said "You need to do more" I pulled out her laptop and began writing a game plan. Blessings In A Book Bag Inc. is a non-profit organization based out of Savannah Ga. every Friday, at Otis Brock Elementary over 50 children and their families are sent home with a bag filled with non perishable food to sustain them over the weekend. Monday through Friday kids eat at school, but on the weekends the need is still there and thats where Blessing In A Book Bag comes in.

Mission Statement
Blessings in a Book Bag Inc. is designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the Free & Reduced Meal Plan and have little or no food to eat on the weekends. Blessings In A Book Bag also serves as a local pantry for those in the community that are in need of food services.
Did you know it only costs $80 to feed one Ameri-can school child in our program for an entire
