Post Fire recovery

My parents, sister and my brother and his family narrowly escaped a fire that consumed their apartment building in Fultonville Sunday night. 

I did not realize until arriving at the scene and speaking with all of them how close they came to not making it out.

My sister in law bravely ran upstairs to my parents apartment to alert them that there was a fire. She was unable to return back downstairs to her husband and children due to the heat and smoke in the stairway. My parents, sister and sister in law were able to escape out the bedroom window onto the roof where they were rescued by firefighters.

My quick thinking brother, with the help of a firefighter, was able to break through a glass door to get him and his 3 children to safety.

It was seconds. No time to grab anything. Just enough time to save themselves. When I arrived and hugged my dad, his hair, eyebrows, and facial hair were singed from opening the door to the hallway.

They've lost everything. My parents, and my brother and his family will each need to secure a place to stay and replace the belongings they lost in the fire.
