¿Quiénes somos y qué hacemos?
Teranga es una organización sin ánimo de lucro creada para dar una oportunidad a todo el que quiera participar en diversas actividades (todas mostradas en el Instagram) pensadas para crear sinergias entre la cultura europea y la africana. Con base en Gran Canaria y en Foundiougne, Teranga nace para dar vida al significado senegalés de la misma palabra : "Si tú eres feliz, yo soy feliz"
Queremos ser auténticos y romper con el prototipo de organización que actúa como salvador del que necesita ayuda, creando una falsa imagen de supremacía. Nuestro objetico es la unión de dos culturas mediante proyectos que buscan crear conexiones y relaciones mediante el respeto y la mejoría del entorno de una forma inclusiva.
¿Dónde?
Foundiougne es un pueblo Senegalés que forma parte de la región de Fatick. Cuenta con una población pura, de eternas sonrisas y pura creatividad. Nuestro objetivo es reconstruir un complejo familiar para crear un Centro Intercultural. Este centro será el corazón y nexo de Teranga.
Dará cobijo a todo aquel que quiera visitar el poblado de Foundiougne y participar en nuestras diferentes actividades y proyectos donde estableceremos sinergias culturales con el pueblo.
Por desgracia, el agua y la electricidad son recursos limitados en el recinto, llegando a pasar meses sin suministro. Queremos aportar instalaciones de energías alternativas para que esto no suceda. Los fondos también irán destinados al material que se requiere para la mejora de la infraestructura del recinto (cemento, arena, cal, bloques de hormigón, hierro, etc). Todo el material y la mano de obra será del mismo poblado para así poder dar un paso hacia nuestra meta de crear una infraestructura económica.
Nuestra fuerza reside en nuestra comunidad, a pesar de nuestro color, etnia, religiones ... Teranga quiere ser una plataforma que incita a esto.
¿Cómo?
1. Turismo Sostenible
1.1. Voluntariados y Talleres: El Centro Intercultural también será una infraestructura donde se podrán llevar a cabo diversos actos de voluntariado. Estos actos serán diversos e irán variando dependiendo de las necesidades del poblado (crear una infraestructura de reciclaje, limpiar el poblado, visitar hospitales y escuelas, agricultura y artesanía, etc..). Eso sí, estos actos se llevarán a cabo EN CONJUNTO con el poblado senegalés. Compartiremos conocimientos entre todos, trabajaremos en equipo y crearemos conexiones que durarán para toda la vida.
1.2. Vacaciones Eco-Sostenibles: También habilitaríamos el centro para los que no quieran entrar en las dos experiencias ya mencionadas y en cambio quieran disfrutar de unas vacaciones y conocer Senegal. El turismo, al fin y al cabo, también ayudará a crear una infraestructura económica mínima que beneficiará a las familias residentes del poblado. Además, este tipo de turismo no solo disfrutará de actividades turísticas, si lo quisieran, sino también podrán participar en actividades que inciten a la conexión intercultural que queremos fomentar en Teranga. Estas actividades pueden incluir; clases de danza senegalesa, clases de cocina senegalesa, clases de música senegalesa y mucho más.
1.3. Retiros Conscientes: Nos gustaría ofrecer retiros conscientes. Estos retiros pueden ser de Yoga, Meditación, Baile, Movimiento Corporal consciente entre otros. Este tipo de turismo acomodaría a personas de todo el mundo a las que le gustaría desconectar de nuestra velocidad cotidiana y a la misma vez experimentar y aprender de la cultura senegalesa, participando así en diversas actividades y proyectos que asegurarían una experiencia cultural y sostenible.
2. Agricultura e Independencia: Queremos trabajar la tierra que rodea el centro para poder cultivar: plantas medicinales y cultivos alimenticios. Queremos desarrollar un método de trabajo holístico que combine el arte con la agricultura, todo con el fin de hacer del Centro y del poblado de Foundiougne un lugar autosuficiente. Crearíamos una economía de valor en orígen y, además, consideraríamos la potencia para exportar materiales en crudo para la creación de cosméticos u otros productos, creando así una infraestructura económica mínima en el pueblo.
3. Energías Renovables: Nos gustaría asegurarnos de que el Centro sea un lugar autosuficiente no sólo a través del cultivo sino, teniendo un Infraestructura de energía alternativa que les permitirá tener suministro de agua y luz. La incorporación de paneles solares sería de gran valor ya que esto aseguraría un buen suministro eléctrico sostenible.
Además, estamos considerando incorporar filtrado de agua con máquinas que permitirían tomar agua del río Saloum, filtrarlo para su uso en Teranga (duchas, riego de cultivos, etc.), volver a filtrarlo y devolver al río Saloum. Todavía estamos estudiando ésto, ya que la sostenibilidad y la preservación de la biodiversidad juegan un papel importante para nosotros y no queremos devolver al río Saloum ningún agua filtrada químicamente.
4. Terapias Alternativas: También nos gustaría ser un centro de Terapias Alternativas. Dada la falta de recursos médicos en la zona,
queremos abrir la oportunidad a profesionales que quisieran dar terapias alternativas durante el tiempo que ellos deseen.
Esto también podría complementarse con las plantas medicinales que cultivaríamos alrededor del Centro, pudiendo utilizarlas como recursos naturales para estas terapias.
Estas terapias pueden incluir yoga, meditación, quiromasaje, acupuntura, medicina ayurvédica, etc.
Acomodaríamos los cuatro puntos explicados anteriormente en esta experiencia. Teranga asegurará una infraestructura económica mínima y consciente en el pueblo.
Si se les ocurre cualquier otra idea u forma en la que quisieran aportar al proyecto no duden en ponerse en contacto con nosotros, estaremos encantados de escucharles.

Who are we?
Teranga is a non-profit organization created to give an opportunity to anyone who wants to participate in various activities (all shown on Instagram) designed to create synergies between European and African culture. Based in Gran Canaria and Foundiougne, Teranga was born to give life to the Senegalese meaning of the same word: "If you are happy, I am happy"
We want to be authentic and break with the prototype of organization that acts as a savior of the one who needs help, creating a false image of supremacy. Our objective is the union of two cultures through projects that seek to create connections and relationships through respect and the best of the environment in an inclusive way.
Where?
Foundiougne is a Senegalese town that is part of the Fatick region. It has a population of eternal smiles and pure creativity. We are located in the Senegalese village of Foundiougne one of the three departments of the Fatick region. Total of 224 659 inhabitants (2006). 3 hour drive from the Senegalese capital, Dakar. The Permaculture Residence is going to be born at a family compound that right now tries to function as a tourist stay. This compound has 11 rooms with possibilities to be increased to 21 rooms, terrace and common areas but with no water supply and poor supply of electricity. It is surrounded mainly by land and is constructed just in front of the Salum river.
Our goal is to rebuild the family compound to create a Intercultural Residence. This Residence will be the heart and nexus of Teranga. It will give shelter to anyone who wants to visit the Foundiougne and participate in our different collaborative projects were we will establish cultural synergies with the village. Our force resides in our community, despite of our colour, ethnicity, religions... Teranga wants to be a platform that incites this.
How?
1. Sustainable Tourism
1.1. Volunteering and Workshops: The Intercultural Center will also be an infrastructure where various acts of volunteering can be carried out. These acts will be diverse and will vary depending on the needs of the town (creating a recycling infrastructure, cleaning the town, visiting hospitals and schools, permaculture and crafts, etc.). Of course, these acts will be carried out WITH the Senegalese people. We will share knowledge with each other, work as a team and create connections that will last a lifetime.
1.2. Sustainable Vacation: We would also enable the Center for those who do not want to enter the two experiences already mentioned above and instead want to enjoy a vacation and get to know Africa. After all, tourism will also help create a minimal economic infrastructure that will benefit the families residing in the town. In addition, this type of tourism will not only enjoy touristic activities, if they wish, they will also be able to participate in activities that encourage the intercultural connection that we want to promote in Teranga. These activities may include; Senegalese dance classes, Senegalese cooking classes, Senegalese music classes and much more.
1.3. Conscious Retreats: We would like to offer mindful retreats at the Center. These retreats could be focused on Yoga, Meditation, Mindful Conscious Dancing and much more ... This type of tourism would accommodate people from all over the world who would like to disconnect from our daily speed and at the same time experience and learn about the Senegalese culture, participating thus in various activities and projects that would ensure a cultural and sustainable experience.
2. Agriculture and Independence: We want to work the land that surrounds the Center so that we can cultivate botanical gardens: medicine and food crops. We want to develop a holistic working method that combines art with permaculture, all in order to make the Center and the town of Foundiougne a self-sufficient place. We would create an economy of value at source and, in addition, we would consider the power to export raw materials for the creation of cosmetics or other products, thus creating a minimal economic infrastructure in the town.
3. Renewable Energy: We would like to make sure that the Center is a self-sufficient place not only through cultivation but also by having an alternative energy infrastructure that will allow them to have water and electricity supply. The incorporation of solar panels would be of great value as this will ensure a good sustainable electricity supply.
Furthermore, we are considering incorporating water filtering machines that would allow water to be taken from the Saloum River, filtering it for use in the Residence (showers, irrigation of crops, etc.), filtering it again and returning it to the Saloum River. We are still studying this as sustainability and the preservation of biodiversity play an important role for us and we do not want to return any chemically filtered water to the Saloum River.
4. Alternative Therapies: We would also like to be an Alternative Therapy Center. Given the lack of medical resources in the area,
we want to open the opportunity to professionals who would like to give alternative therapies in the Center for as long as they wish
This could also be complemented with the medicinal plants that we would cultivate around the Center, being able to use them as natural resources for these therapies.
