Hi
My name’s Victoria, I’m a rehabilitation specialist and Podiatrist who has spent over 30 yrs working in the NHS and British Military Hospitals as well as providing free support for UK marine and SF veterans
Treating a wounded veteran in an abandoned school in South East Ukraine
My involvement started three years ago when I rehabilitated two injured international veterans who had been critically injured whilst fighting and had returned to the UK for vital surgery as both faced the risk of amputation if they had stayed in Ukraine
As a military rehabilitation specialist I was able to provide them with the specific post surgery rehabilitation they needed to help them function more effectively so return to Ukraine and rejoin their units
They told me to go over to Ukraine to volunteer in the hospitals as physical therapy was desperately needed but, due to conscription, Casualties and people fleeing the country, there were few therapists left, and so in October 23 I visited Ukraine for the first time and commenced work in the SuperHumans Centre in Lviv.
My experience there of the catastrophic injuries that these people had endured left a profound impression on me so I vowed that I would do what I could to support these men and women return to some meaningful life and employment
To give you an idea of how desperate the situation is over 300000 men women and children are WAITING for therapy let alone receiving it but being only a few therapists left in the country, the task to treat them all with the care and dignity they deserve is almost impossible
With the support of my colleagues in Aequitas together We set upon an idea of teaching veterans to become therapists so they could help their injured comrades. The aim would be that we would train veterans to become qualified physical therapists so developing the knowledge to treat themselves as well as their colleagues and subsequently have a fulfilling career despite their injuries
This Project is also taking the form of a mobile clinic which will drive to the east of the country where need is greatest and bring care and support to those who could not access it due to being in remote and dangerous locations
Thanks to you we’re close to our goal!
Treating an injured veteran in Pokrovsk
Because of your help I have been able to continue treating and training and the mobile unit will be activated early 2027 but the increasing numbers of wounded means that our program is going to have to expand rapidly to cater for demand
And this is where we need your help
Your donations will not only allow us to fund the rehabilitation unit but allow us to support and fund our veteran apprentices as they develop their skills and begin to take on patients of their own. We will then begin the process of rolling out more mobile units so that rehabilitation can be provided wherever needed so no soldier or volunteer will have to tolerate distressing and disabling injuries
Teaching veterans and volunteers in Dnipro
We will also be able to continue to visit patients and veterans in hospital, treating and advocating for them, ensuring that they receive the best care they can to aid their recovery while teaching the new and existing therapists at the units all the skills they need to be better clinicians and to help Ukraine recover
Thank you so so much for your support, you are our foundation and it’s only down to you that we can continue
Please donate whatever you can to support our work and help Ukraine rehabilitate long after this brutal conflict is over
On my way to the front to treat the injured
Hospital staff receive much needed supplies
Treating the injured wherever I can, including the floor of a train station
Driving a truck full of aid to the centre of Kyiv to deliver to a veterans charity
Being silly with my patient on the left and Alex, Director of Way to Health in Dnipro, on the right
Another ambulance delivered to Medics in Kharkiv
Aid delivered to front line medics
Treating and having a good laugh with the amazing veterans of the air defence unit Kharkiv region
Another sore neck from an old combat injury (a grenade to the back)
Supplies delivered to a military hospital, no convoy east goes without aid
Treating a Canadian volunteer who was caught in a blast and suffered full thickness burns to his legs
