Protect the health of children one foot at a time

Did you have any idea that not wearing shoes could cause anaemia (iron deficiency)? During the wet season the hookworm thrives and can make it's way into the bodies of unknowing passers by, generally through the soles of your feet. These hookworms can cause anaemia which in turn can cause serious health issues, especially in children. But it's completely preventable! Just slap on a pair of thongs!

Hello, my name is Kirsten. I'm a preschool teacher and have been offered a job of a lifetime; to work in a remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia's Kimberly region. When asked if there was anything I could bring with me the only thing the community needed was thongs. I reached out to my community here in the Byron Shire and there was an outpouring of generosity. So much so that there were WAY too many thongs for my partner and I to throw on the ute. We have ended up with thousands of pairs resulting in two pallets worth! This is way more than my community will need so I have partnered with organisations in Kununurra and they are going to help distribute to many communities in the Kimberly.

Now we are left with the challenge on how to get them there however. Due to covid restrictions and the slow down in transport, freight prices have gone up much higher than I anticipated. Quotes I'm receiving are upward of $4000. But we will get them there one way or the other! Thank you in advance for your help and support.
