PROTECT MARINE BIODIVERSITY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

TROPICAL ECOSYSTEMS NEED YOUR HELP :

In Mahahual and the rest of the Caribbean, we have lost up to 90% of corals in the past 20 years, and dozens of hectares of seagrass and mangroves. We have to change that! A CINVESTAV study found that in the early 2000s, Mahahual had the most pristine reef in the
Caribbean.

It’s heartbreaking to think about what we have lost, but it also gives us a lot of motivation to conserve what is left and put the reef back to its original state. Coastal ecosystems are the basis of tourism and alimentation of the population. It is imperative to restore the
biodiversity lost over the past 20 years!

OUR GOAL :
Protect and restore the marine-coastal ecosystems (reef, seagrass, and mangrove) of Mahahual.
Bring Mahahual back to one of the healthiest and most intact reefs in the Caribbean Sea.
Set an example and unite the Mahahual community around a common objective: save our reef!

OUR STORY:

Since 2017, our NGO has been setting up projects and programs to transform Mahahual into a responsible development model. Our
results demonstrate the seriousness and importance of this work, which we hope to increase over the next year. Our programs are
diversified, they cover, among other things, eco- certification, coral restauration and the study of mangroves forest. Inhabited by values of social development, we work in close collaboration with the community, the municipality, schools and private establishments. In
addition, we benefit from cooperation agreements with several national and foreign universities which allows us to receive interns
from different countries from academic backgrounds such as: biology, ecology, environmental management, anthropology, geology,
economics, engineering, geography, urban planning and tourism.

This varied expertise has enabled us to study ecosystems and their biodiversity as much as social dynamics and the attachment of the
population to its natural environment. For all these reasons, we believe it is time to increase our impact on the community and the
environment, by implementing larger-scale projects while engaging the local population. WE OWE IT TO FUTURE GENERATIONS!
