Help Kelly Walk Again’
Hello,
I'm Paula and this is Kelly Renee Smith's story. Kelly is engaged to my son and she was involved in an accident on February 25, 2022. She has been working at the University Hospital as a surgical tech for 14 years but her dream was to become an operating room nurse (O.R. Nurse) in January, 2022 she graduated from Cincinnati State College and her dream came true.Tragically this all changed for her when they ran out of gas and she was helping my son by holding the flashlight so he could put the gas in the vehicle. Kelly took full impact from the collision and was pinned between two vehicles, her legs were mangled, she was rushed to University hospital and was in ICU for one week. Her left leg was amputated and the doctors continue to try and salvage her right leg, currently she is still in the hospital. The other driver who was responsible for the collision had no car insurance.
Therefore, we are asking for donations to help lessen the burden on Kelly so she can focus on getting better and knowing she can eventually live her dream again. We are trying to raise $250,000 dollars that can help her with getting a prosthetic leg and home repairs to make it handicap accessible, i.e. entry way, bathroom and kitchen. She has monthly bills that total $2,500, and will need long term physical therepy and mental health therapy to cope with her emotional trauma and fears from the accident. Kelly is 44 years old and a single parent whose son resides with her as he continues his education. On the day of the car accident Kelly was shopping for a frame for her diploma when her life took a turn for the worse. What was a good day turned into the most tragic day of her life!
Kelly loves hanging out with family and friends and has developed a close bond with the people she worked with in the operating room. She wanted to make a difference in people's lives by giving them the attention they needed. She loves sporting events, Miami basketball, football, shopping and going out to eat while socializing with family and friends.. She has undergone approximately 12 surgeries and counting. She has a long road to recovery.Kelly is such an amazing person and anyone who doesn’t know or hasn’t met Kelly is missing out!! I ask if everyone can please share her story and donate if possible. Please keep her in your prayers. We would like to remind everyone to look out for emergency vehicles, disabled vehicles and pedestrians. Our hopes are for her to make a full recovery and pray she becomes a good candidate for a prosthetic leg. Please help Kelly get the training, living aids and ongoing support necessary to gain her independence once again . I have posted some photos and some may be disturbing to see. Donations and prayers are greatly appreciated.
