We have the power to change the world one small random act of kindness at a time. When we go through our daily life we pass by many people everyday. We pass by fellow commuters, homeless people, children, and even animals. We have conversations and see people smiling. But does what we see on the outside tell the whole story?
Project You Matter is a movement to bring out the unique potential that is in all people. It is our mission to show people from all walks of life that they are loved, cared for, and really do matter. How do we do this? By creating a space for people to be truly heard. Also, by doing random acts of kindness with no agenda other than saying “We care about you”.
The first project we completed was surprising 50 homeless people on the streets with care packages that included 1) A homemade pot roast meal 2) Fleece Blanket 3) Water 4) Hershey Bar 5) A personal handwritten note filled with words of encouragement. We believe that when a person feels truly heard and knows that there are people cheering for them, it can spark a change deep within them. Along with handing out the care packages it was a priority for us to build a connection and get to know each person we met.
Here is a first hand story:
“Unique was the first guy I had the privilege of meeting. He was such a gentle and kind soul who was beyond grateful for what we gave him. He has 4 kids and is from Denver where he did electric work. He moved to California because his 14-year-old daughter has health issues with her brain and wants to get her special treatment that’s available in the Bay area. He is Italian and speaks English, Italian, and Romanian. He even told me how he used to love to do judo. All he wants is a job to provide for his family and currently spends his days between looking for work and asking for money to help his family and sick daughter. Along with him I also had the privilege of meeting two David’s, Steve, Mattie, and Matthew who were also so grateful for what we gave to them.”
Our plan is to hold events regularly for many different groups such as children, animals, veterans, people of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and everyday people in unique and very personal ways. We are raising money to continue these spontaneous acts of kindness as we are in the works of becoming a full time operating non-profit organization. With your help we will grow into the potential we know is inevitable for Project You Matter. We created the GoFundMe campaign and have raised nearly $1,700 (including cash and checks received) for our first two projects alone. We also have a “Project You Matter” Facebook and Instagram page for those wanting to stay in the loop with what we’re doing next and getting involved. You can visit our website at projectyoumatter.org . People see that what we’re doing is very different with how personal, creative, and in depth we’re going. We ask for your support so that we may continue spreading the love. We’re just getting started.
