Project THEM

Project THEM is a pilot program from Sunrise-Amanecer in Greensboro, NC. THEM stands for Trans Humanistic Empowerment Movement and is an homage to the they/them pronoun.  Project THEM is a 4 part program consisting of
*Support groups for trans identifying teens as well as a separate group for the parents of trans teens to help them support their children.
*Community Outreach to let people know that we are here for them.
*Case management for trans community members to connect them with needed services within the area.
*One-on-one therapy for people who may need added support.

We have BSW and MSW interns helping us to staff Project THEM but we need money to make the program viable.  

What we are asking for....... 
$3000 for technology we need laptops, 3 of them so that we can conduct our support groups remotely.  In the days of COVID-19 we want to make sure that we are keeping people safe while we are supporting them.
$1000 for outreach. We need to print flyers, we want to have t-shirts and stickers to let folx know that we have services available. We are going to be launching a YouTube channel that will be providing educational videos produced by our interns and we have lots of other ideas in the works.
$1000 for utilities. We need to pay for high speed internet in order to remotely connect, we need to keep the lights and the heat and air on. 

We are a  new start-up nonprofit reaching out to the trans community. We are asking you to pitch in what you can.  Your dollars can help use to let people know that they are not alone, that they have support.

For trans people, and especially trans youth, loneliness and isolation can lead to suicidal thoughts and actions. The rates of suicide attempts for unsupported trans teens is much higher than that of their cisgender counterparts.  41.8% of nonbinary youth reported a suicide attempt in their life. (Human Rights Campaign, 2018)
