Pride Fundraiser - DSA Kern County

DSA Kern County is raising money to give away Bakersfield Pride tickets!

Our local Pride festival, Bakersfield Pride, will be Saturday, October 12th! In as hostile as an environment as Bakersfield, spaces like Pride are essential for our LGBTQIA+ community. But unfortunately, in order to attend Pride a ticket must be purchased. 2019 ticket prices have not been announced, but 2018 tickets were $10 each. In our opinion, any financial barrier is too much; $10 can be prohibitive when survival is a daily question, and even asking friends or family for the cost of a ticket risks outing our neighbors and leaving them vulnerable.

As Democratic Socialists, we are fighting for a world without material or legal restrictions on sexuality or gender, and a world where our social relationships are not dictated and constrained by capital. Queer spaces should not be organized around economic exchange, and no one should be too poor to attend Pride.

Our goal is to raise enough money to buy 40 tickets, which we will distribute directly and confidentially, for free, with no questions asked. Our last GoFundMe fully funded our second brake light repair clinic, and left us with just enough left over to purchase a booth at Bakersfield Pride. All of the money raised by this fundraiser will go toward Pride. Help us ensure the people who need to experience Bakersfield Pride the most are present.
