Praying for Charles

This unknown, scary, emotionally charged journey for Robert and Brittany began in December 2016. They first took Charles  to the hospital for excessive vomiting  where X-rays where done and they found his liver was enlarged into his chest area, sending them home with no answers. They chose to take him to another hospital, whom still couldn't give them any answers, but sent them to  Covenant Children's in Lubbock. He spent his first Christmas in the hospital, being poked several times daily. His liver levels became stable a few days  after being there so they also like the others sent them home with no answers. A few moths go by and they take Charles in for a biopsy shortly after his first birthday, after waiting hours they came in with the results to tell them their son had a rare liver disease called Glycogen Storage Disease Type 3. It affects his liver, muscles and heart. He is on a strict diet. He can't  have candy, cakes things of that sort. His liver does not produce or feed glycogen into his body, it stores in to the liver causing it to stay enlarged. Once his liver is full of sugars it will then store it into his muscles which causes weakness and later on muscular dystrophy . Once those are full it stores in his heart and eventually leads to death. 

They have been doing the best they can with Charles. All of his need are coming out of pocket. Trips out of town to doctors, heart sonograms, blood meters, ketone meter strips, needles, special formula, special proteins... the list is endless. Now with a new doctor looking at doing a complete liver transplant, on top of needing dental surgery.  Robert and Brittany need our assistance, to ease the financial burden and are to humble to ask. That's where we as family, friends, coworkers and neighbors pull together to help alleviate it.
