ASK ME HOW CAN WE HELP
The recent environmental events that have occurred have taken a toll on our families, friends, communities and in our hearts.
Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria and the Earthquake in Mexico will have long last impacts on the residents and families of each of these affected communities. There are many that have lost their homes, belongings and in some extremely sad situations a family member and or friend. With those extreme losses, there will be additional long term effects and suffering that the people and the communities will endure in the days, weeks and months to come.
Several will have no running water, food, clothing or shelter.
These occurrences however tragic and devastating are a call to action to each one of us.
My parents and I live in New York, much of our family resides in Puerto Rico. However, we knew that we could no longer wait and hope for the best.
The money dontated will go to ConPRmetidos, a non-profit that asists Puerto Rico's social, political and economic development and of course disaster aid.
Let us not put ourselves in the positions that we repeatedly find ourselves in.
Let us not hear ourselves repeating the words that we have quietly and shamefully spoken to ourselves and that we have regretted, on too my occasions.
Let us not repeat these words again, “I should have done something”.
Let us take our call to action and be proud to know that we took on the challenge, that we made the sacrifices and that we did what was right.
Let us be proud that we made those sacrifices to do what is right, that we answered the calling and that we did it not for accolades, or praise or thanks but because we knew that it was what we should be doing.
How can we help:
Donation of clothing: Many have lost everything
Can goods: Canned foods, non-perishables
Water: Running water will be slow to restore and sporadic services will be available
Batteries: AA, AAA, C, D’s
Money contributions: Business have also been affected. This will prevent many from being able to return to work. Assuming that the business have not been destroyed.
The only catastrophe will be if you and I do nothing to help to our fellow human beings
