Deputy Brian Norton and Hannah's Memorial Fund

On October 3rd, 2021, Deputy Brian Norton was hospitalized due to complications from Covid19.  Things moved quickly.  Brian was admitted to the hospital and intubated on October 15th.   Dialysis started soon after.  The decision to place him on an Ecmo machine on October 23rd, allowed him to be removed from sedation.  Brian then was fully alert and able to communicate nonverbally due to the trachea tube.

Brian continued his recovery with physical therapy, fighting hard.  There were ups and downs due to the multiple lung infections and other various complications.

January 7th, there was so much hope for Brian.   They were able to take him off of Dialysis, now that his kidneys had completely healed.  From that point, he was so tired from the fight he had been fighting for the last three months it was hard to keep going.

On February 4th, Brian had a stroke, which caused severe bleeding and swelling.  February 5th would be our last day with Brian.  Amazingly, Brian was able to save so many lives through organ and tissue donations.  Even with all he had against him, he kept his body healthy enough to save others, a true hero.

Deputy Norton will truly be missed by so many, whether they knew him from his police services in Paxton, Gilman, Onarga, and Ford County, or from weekends grilling and wearing Cubs jerseys with friends.

With all unpredictable medical issues come hard financial times.  Brian's long-time girlfriend Hannah, is now having to figure out how to keep up with life after having two incomes for the past eight years.  All now with being off for four months while staying with Brian in the hospital.  His life insurance was unfortunately taken away, due to a pandemic death.

Brian's girlfriend Hannah, brother Jeff, and father John are very grateful for all the thoughts and prayers sent their way during this time.  It is truly appreciated.
