Power Wheelchair for Zach

Donation protected
My name is Danielle and I am the mother of Zach, my 4 year old son who was born with a neuromuscular disorder called Nemaline Myopathy. This disorder affects all of the muscles in his body and has severely affected his lower body muscles. Since birth Zach has come a very long way and has gained a great amount of head control and upper body movement. Even with therapy and stimulation he has not had much leg movement and therefore cannot crawl or walk independently. He is fully dependent on myself and my husband to get around the house and do daily activities. Zach is a pretty typical little boy who loves cars, trains, anything Disney and especially loves music! As he gets older he wants to explore his surroundings more independently and has gotten increasingly more frustrated about not having that independence. This is the reason we are asking for your help.

We have been given the opportunity to custom build a POWER wheelchair for Zach that he will be able to completely operate on his own! He will be able to maneuver around the house, out in public and beyond with this chair. He won't need us to push him or be directed where to go, he will do it! This is very exciting and a huge step in his mobility journey. Giving him the freedom to choose his destination will help him grown in enormous ways.

Zach was supposed to get a power wheelchair through insurance but it required us to get an adapted vehicle, ramps in our house and for him to meet with a therapist every week to learn to drive. When the pandemic hit all of his therapy stopped which meant he couldn't learn to drive. Everything has been on hold for over a year with no sign of returning any time soon. The more time that passes and he isn't able to have independent mobility the more frustrated he gets. This is why we looked into other routes to get him moving, literally! Bailey Built Wheelchairs has come into our lives and is willing to help make the power chair of Zachs dreams come to life. The chair they will build is lightweight and collapsible so we won’t need to get a new vehicle and it’s small enough that it can be driven around our home without issues. A build like this does come at a price though. While we have some money saved for him, we don't have enough to cover the full cost. We don't want to wait on giving Zach the mobility he deserves which is why we are asking for your help. Every dollar is a huge step closer to our goal and means opening up a whole new world for Zach to explore.

We know times are very challenging right now but we want to say that we truly appreciate any amount you can donate. 100% of your donation will go directly to getting this chair built and in a few months we will all be able to watch Zach roll down the street all on his own! We cannot thank you enough for your support and for continuously encouraging us on this journey with Zach. We love you all!
