Potter's Village orphanage fund
Donation protected
As many of you know last year I spent 10 weeks volunteering in a rural orphanage in Ghana. I was placed at the Potter’s Village orphanage which houses over 120 children of all ages. The founder of Potter’s Village, Jane Irene Adu and the house staff, consistently work to improve the lives of both children and domestic violence survivors. Because the orphanage is a non-government home it receives no exterior funding to provide for the children. The orphanage looks to volunteers to help with purchasing clean drinking water, food, firewood, medication including a large quantity of malaria test kits and antibiotics, as well as costs such as rent and exam fees. Despite their hardships, I’ve never met more resilient, caring, hilarious children. They’ve truly formed a huge family and even though they experience some of toughest situations life has to offer they do everything with a smile on their faces.
Through my GoFundMe page I was able to raise almost $2000 for Potter’s Village and provide many necessities to the home during my last stay. I am going back to Potter’s Village in between my semesters this April and hope to raise money before I leave. A portion of funds raised will be used towards the construction of a new home for the children, as their current building is overcrowded, run down, and has many safety and health issues including flooding, security, and bed bugs. The construction for a new home is already underway; however building has been slow due to the lack of funds available for materials and labour. The remaining money will be donated towards food, medication, water and other items needed.
Please share and consider donating to this amazing cause! Every donation counts! These kids are truly resilient but unfortunately have not been given the same opportunities in life that we all have been so lucky to receive.
