In 2015, Bangalore audiences saw the opening show of the ground-breaking theatre project, "Positively Shameless" about working through residues of childhood sexual abuse. This project grew out of a 12-week Drama Therapy Process in Bangalore, India that was a therapeutic intervention for women adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA).
Over the next two years, the project travelled to other cities in India engaging diverse audiences. This year, the Positively Shameless group extends its work to a wider global audience. In October 2018, four women from the original performance team, will travel to the United States to perform and conduct workshops at conferences, colleges and community groups.
In addition to addressing silenced aspects of CSA and its complicated socio-political realities, we as an Indian delegation present a facet of Indian women and contemporary Indian theatre that is seldom seen in the United States. This will also offer a peek into a form of arts-based civil activism against sexual violence that has taken root in urban India.
Our budget for travel to and within the United States is $12000. This will cover their expenses for travel, food and accommodation. So far, we have raised 20% of the costs through self-sponsorship and support from close family and friends. We are in the process of applying for grants and waivers that (if granted) will account for an additional 20%.
