Porter - Short Film

Hello,

My name is Barry McNamara. I am an actor and writer from Westport, Co.Mayo. I have been pursuing my dream of being a full-time filmmaker since 2016 and have worked endlessly towards that goal. This film is a massive step for me toward that goal, as this is my filmmaking debut!

I am very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to make my first script, 'Porter' into a film because it was selected and backed by Screen Ireland and Bow Street Academy under the 'Actor as Creator' scheme.

It's essential to me to pay my cast and crew what they deserve for their hard work and talents. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to get it over the line just yet, so any small donation would be massive!

Porter is very much biographical. The script was a finalist in the Kerry International Film Festival 2020. It deals mainly with the theme of humanity and kindness and how small acts can make a huge difference. There is also an underlying theme of loneliness and the struggles that come with it. The script is a comedy with zippy dialogue, showing that a little can go a long way.

'Porter' follows Danny, a young man stuck in his hometown while his friends have moved on. He works as a Porter in a bustling but understaffed hotel. Given that he is the only porter, he must immediately tend to all hotel guests when called upon. Juggling with multiple tasks alone, all needing immediate attention, Danny fails to give the care and service required for his job and doesn’t see the point in trying. When Ger and Nancy arrive with the Golden Year group, Danny views them as just another tedious old couple. But when Nancy goes missing, Danny realizes there's more to them than meets the eye.

It's a story that is very important to me and one that I would love to get told.
