Jakiez to dziwne, bo kiedy nie mogac oddychac trafia kolejny raz do tego samego szpitala pod koniec maja okazuje sie, ze diagnoza jest najgorsza z mozliwych - rak prawego pluca stopnia IV umiejscowiony w nieoperacyjnym miejscu. Dorota nie wychodzi juz ze szpitala gdzie podczas kolejnego ataku dusznosci zapada w spiaczke. Podczas kilkutygodniowej spiaczki podawana jest jej eksperymentalna chemioterapia, ale oslabione cialo roznie ja toleruje…dwukrotnie zatrzymuje sie krazenie, szczesliwie po reanimacjach Dorota powraca. Dorota’s story is equally as sad, as of any family struggling with cancer and familiarly heartbreaking and crushing, but please lend an ear and open your heart. For those living or have lived in Greenpoint, or of the Polish community there, it may hit closer to home as Dorota has lived in New York’s Greenpoint neighborhood for many years. Perhaps you ran into her in McGolrick Park where she would spend her time with her three daughters, perhaps in St Stanislaus Kostka church, or the nearby deli store where she worked. In April of 2022, everything changed. A persistent cough did not let up despite numerous visits to many doctors and taking a plethora of different medicines. A visit at the hospital and an X-ray of her lungs did not show anything unusual. However, just a month later, in May, when she arrived at the same hospital with inability to breathe, the diagnosis was the worst possible - inoperable stage four cancer of the right lung. Dorota does not leave the hospital again. During the following attack of shortness of breath, she falls into a coma. During the many weeks that followed, Dorota has been given an experimental type of chemotherapy but her body tolerates with random results, twice stopping her blood circulation, but luckily attempts at resuscitation were successful. After a few months at the hospital, Dorota returns home. She returns home because she is a warrior and wants to continue the battle for her daughters, Veronica, Adrianna, and Alexandra, for the husband, for her loved ones, and her friends. Her treatment continues, daily radiation and trips to the hospital in taxis. There is belief, belief that she can win this battle, but even she fills with increased worry as more results return at the start of this year and show cancer cells have been now detected in other parts of her body. That is not a final verdict yet! We continue the fight. Dorota will begin her next round of aggressive chemotherapy on January 17/2023 she is more than ready to get through it. But so what if there is belief when apart from her cancer, Dorota is burdened by daily problems. Insurance only covers a tiny portion of her medical expenses, bills are stacking up, and Dorota is in a state where she can barely move and breathe. Two of her older daughters have interrupted their college studies and have found jobs to support the family and attempt to help with the bills. But that is just a drop in an ocean of needs.
