This morning I held my sweet 22 year old cousin Susana in my arms as she cried the whole ride home from the Oakland airport. She had not had any human touch for 4 months, because touching is prohibited in ICE detention.
After a long struggle, where we leaned on friends in Austin, Texas Susana was just released. She is looking at a large legal, medical and relocating expenses. You can all imagine the amount of emotional trauma she is dealing -- all the photos of how people are held are REAL. She has shared with us some of the horrible things she endured and all this after fleeing El Salvador because many of the young women she worked with were murdered.
Legal fees to get her released were $2k, the bail bond was $10k, the political asylum case is likely to cost 8-10k. In addition, Susana is in urgent need of an orthodontist. If you have any leads for a low cost or free option please let us know.
Please know that your support will help reinstate Susana's hope in humanity and in the people of the US. Susana will be living with us until her political asylum case is heard. We are blessed that she is one of very few people who have this opportunity.
"I am grateful for my family who have provided me much support, it has been very difficult but I am grateful that god has given m the strength to endure. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the help you can give me.. and prayers go along way." Susana
I am deeply grateful for your time reading this. As you can imagine, I am broken hearted to hear first hand about the cruelty of some people. Your prayers, your expressions of support -- monetary or not -- really help.
Blessings,
Ana
