Following being released from the hospital after an incident on 10.16, Kora started to lose feeling in her hands and face just a few days later and within 36 hours she could no longer walk, speak or breathe on her own and was admitted back to the hospital on 10.27. During this time she’s been bedridden, intubated with a breathing tube, and on a feeding tube. After testing positive for a rare virus called CMV, Kora was diagnosed with MOGAD, an autoimmune disorder that in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues, likely triggered by the CMV. In Kora’s case, her brain stem and spinal cord were affected. This disease is very rare (only roughly 17,000 people in the US have it), and was diagnosed by MRIs, spinal taps, blood tests and present symptoms. She even underwent plasmapheresis, IVIG and has a PEG tube placed in her stomach. She currently has pneumonia and is very weak and frail. The doctors are hopeful she will make a full recovery with time and rehabilitation. All this to say, Kora has not been able to work or go to class during this time, and is in need of our support. We know that given Kora's personal history and chosen profession, she would be the first to help someone in need. Whether it’s donating, sharing this link, or joining in prayer/sending positive thoughts… let’s make a difference!
