Hey everyone, I appreciate you visiting this page and taking the time to read this story about my best friends fight against breast cancer.

On November 2, 2022, Tarah was diagnosed with two different, estrogen-based cancer strains - one of which is the same that took both her grandmother's and great-grandmother's lives. While this news was paralyzing as a single, independent, career woman, she knew that her best chance was to face it head-on. Tarah placed her trust in the hands of my team of doctors from Memorial Sloan Kettering, including Doctor Capko, who advised that her best chance was to undergo a double mastectomy as soon as possible. At that time, four tumors were detected that contained seven centimeters in one breast. The timing couldn't have been worse, because just a month before Tarah left her stressful, full-time job to work as a waitress, with no medical insurance. Tarah had no choice since then to do what she had to do. Despite being faced with her worst nightmare, she forged forward and heeded her doctor's advice and went ahead with plans for surgery.

To save Tarah’s life, she had her breasts removed on January 4, 2023, which was the most devastating experience she has  ever gone through. Tarah is facing her next surgery on April 21, 2023 at Sloan Kettering in New York City which entails tissue removal and full breast reconstruction, a nine-hour surgery performed by one of the best, Dr. Allen, Jr. This next surgery will keep her out of work for two months in addition to the work and income already lost after January's surgery. Tarah’s debt is growing exponentially and therefore I’m asking for any support to help her navigate the physical and financial stress that lies ahead.

Tarah is trying to stay as positive and strong as humanly possible, and hopes her story inspires all of you to get a mammogram, as it can make all the difference in the world. Annual mammograms are what saved her life through early detection.
